hauls2022 Forest River XLR Nitro 351 behind a 2019 F-350 6.7, Can-Am Maverick X3

retired, live in Yuma, and winter is the whole point of living here. our old trailer was a 2012 bumper pull toy hauler with a garage barely long enough for the Maverick X3 and a bathroom you had to step out of to turn around in. my wife gave me one more season with it. that was two seasons ago.

i was reading curt's Momentum thread from St. George and figured i owed this board mine.

first try was a 2020 Jayco Seismic 4113 on conaway's this summer. sealed bid, i put in 64,000 and did not raise it. lost it. you never find out what won, only that it wasn't you. that stung for about a week.

second one: 2022 Forest River XLR Nitro 351, sitting on a lender lot outside Springfield, Missouri. it had a Buy Now price of 54,900 next to the bid box. after losing the Seismic by an amount i will never know, i did not feel like playing again. i clicked Buy Now on a Thursday in September. the Buy Now price is what you pay, same as a winning bid, nothing added on top.

one complaint. i emailed asking for a photo of the slide seals on the off door side, and it took three days to get an answer. they did send it, and the photo was fine, but i spent those three days refreshing my inbox and going back and forth on it.

delivery was 1,380 miles on their sheet. first 1,000 free, 380 at 70 cents, 266 dollars. wired the money, it showed up 11 days later. the listing with all 70-some photos is still up at conawaysautosales.com, worth a look before you commit to anything.

nice. the Nitro 351 garage is a good size for an X3. why Buy Now instead of a sealed bid a little under it? you might have saved a couple grand.

and how did you handle the money side? i had to get a credit union loan lined up first, which took longer than anything else.

a favor if you have a minute: can you put a tape on the Nitro garage, once at the floor and once at about 32 inches up, ramp seal to front wall? we are shopping for a four seater garage and the Nitro is on our list. there is a thread about it in the hauler talk bay.

curt, two reasons. one, i had just lost the Seismic bidding under what i thought it was worth, and i did not want to lose a second one bidding under the Buy Now. two, if you bid under it, somebody else can still take the Buy Now before your bid closes. i did not want to sit there for a week watching. could i have saved two grand? maybe. i also could have lost it.

money: cash. we sold the old trailer to a neighbor and the rest came out of savings. no financing through them, the bank's lien stays on the title until it is paid off, so you need the money or a loan ready before you click anything.

moto mom, measured this morning. floor: 13 ft 1 in. at 32 inches up: 12 ft 8 in because of the step into the living area. the wheel wells are under the floor, not in the garage. the Maverick goes in with about a foot to spare in front.

all in: 54,900, delivery 266, Arizona title, registration and the VLT at the MVD came to 1,142. first trip parts so far: a new set of ramp door hinge pins, 22 dollars, because one was walking out. total 56,330.

i will push back a little on the Buy Now logic. you lost a sealed bid on one and then paid the full asking on the next. that is a reaction, not a plan. if i ever do one of these, i would decide my number before looking, and if Buy Now is under my number, fine.

that said, 56 all in for a 2022 Nitro 351 is a good number. no argument there.

he is not wrong, hauls. but sealed bids are odd for everybody the first time, and the conaway auction setup means you never learn what the winning number was, so you can't calibrate from a loss. a lot of people end up doing what yuma did.

we will be at Buttercup over New Year's if anyone wants to say hi. look for a Fuzion with a Sea-Doo in the garage that has no business being at the dunes.

New Year's at Buttercup, first trip in the Nitro. four nights. the X3 fit with room for a cooler and the grill in front of it, which never happened in the old trailer. found jolene's Fuzion on the second day, the Sea-Doo was really in there.

the only thing that bit us: the generator would not start the first morning at 34 degrees. i had not run it since October. ran it ten minutes with no load like the Onan thread says and it was fine after. my own fault.
