we have a 2021 Jayco Talon 313T and right now the garage holds four dirt bikes. mine is a CRF250F and the kids have a PW50, a TT-R110 and a KTM 85. the oldest is 14 now and the youngest is tired of riding behind everybody, so the plan for next year is to sell two bikes and buy a used four seat RZR so we can all go out together to the trails around Redding and Hollister Hills.
problem. i measured the Talon garage last night with my husband holding the dumb end of the tape. ramp door seal to the front wall at the floor is just under 11 feet. i think a four seater is longer than that? so we are probably shopping for a different trailer too, and i do not want to buy another one and find out the side by side sticks out past the ramp hinge.
so two questions. how much garage do you actually need for a four seat side by side, and where am i supposed to measure from when i look at a used one? the listings all say "13 ft garage" and i have no idea what that number includes.

i run a two seat Pro XP so take this with that in mind, but i have loaded a lot of buddies' four seaters into a lot of trailers at Glamis.
get the length off the manufacturer's spec page for the exact model and year, then add a foot. not because the machine grows, because you need room to get out of the driver's seat and walk around the front to strap it, and on a lot of fifth wheels the front of the garage is not a flat wall. there is the step up into the living area, or a bulkhead, or a cabinet that hangs down. the floor measurement can say 13 feet and the front bumper of the machine can hit something at 12 and a half feet because the bumper sits high.
measure twice. once at the floor and once at about 30 to 36 inches up, which is roughly where a side by side's front bumper and the top of its tires live.

what she said about the high measurement. my 350M floor number and my 3 foot number are almost five inches apart because of the way the front wall is built around the steps.
the other one nobody mentions is width between the wheel wells. most toy haulers have the wheel wells inside the garage under a box or a bench. a four seater is over five feet wide, and if the wells stick in you are threading it between them every single time, in the dark, with the kids yelling directions. a quad does not care. a 64 inch machine does.
and the ramp door itself has a weight rating. look for it on the sticker inside the door or in the manual before you drive anything heavy up it.

Elkhart frame shop guy here. one more thing to put on the tape measure list.
ask whether the garage floor length includes the ramp door when it is closed. some sellers measure to the inside of the door, some to the seal, and i have seen a couple of dealer sheets that measured to the outside of the closed door, which is a number that does you no good at all. if the listing does not say, it is a guess.
and if you are looking at a bigger trailer to fit a four seater, you are also looking at a bigger pin weight. a Talon 313T and a 40 foot fifth wheel with a 13 foot garage are not the same job for your F-250 even before you put a 1,600 lb machine in the back. that machine weight sits behind the axles, which takes some weight off the pin, until you unload it at camp and the pin gets heavier again. people forget that last part.

this was helpful, thank you. i went to the polaris site and pulled the length for a 2020 and a 2022 RZR XP 4 1000. i will not post the exact number because somebody will say i read it wrong, but it is a little over 12 feet. plus a foot means i want a 13 foot garage measured at bumper height, not just at the floor.
the wheel well thing is going to rule out a couple of trailers. we looked at a used one in Chico on sunday and the wells were inside the garage under bench seats. my husband stood between them with his arms out and we both laughed.
dale, the pin weight point is fair. our truck is the 7.3 gas, so the trailer is going to get chosen around the truck, not the other way.

late to this but i just did the same math for two machines. on my trailer the floor measurement and the measurement at 32 inches are about four inches apart. the RZR XP 4 goes in first with the front tires up against a wheel chock bolted to the floor, and i still have about ten inches to get past the front bumper with the straps. any less and i would be climbing over the hood.
bring a tape and a broom handle cut to your machine's length when you go look. lay it on the floor, then hold it up at bumper height. takes two minutes and the seller will think you are strange, which is fine.

update. we did the broom handle thing on two trailers today in Sacramento and one in Red Bluff on the way home. one passed at the floor and failed at 32 inches by three inches because of a cabinet over the steps. the other one passed both, but the wells are inside the garage again.
no decision yet. the dirt bikes are not going anywhere until spring anyway, and the 14 year old has opinions about which one gets sold. thanks all, this saved us from buying the cabinet one, which my husband liked best.
